Betty Ann Marie Varner, 81, formerly of Lyndhurst, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Brandermill Woods Nursing Home in Midlothian. She was born December 23, 1936 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Ralph C. Nottingham and Martha Kramer Nottingham Sampson.
Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. She worked as a Senior Executive Assistant with DuPont until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George E. Varner on March 14, 2009 and her grandson, Chad Fields.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Wichael and husband, Kenny of Waynesboro, Diana Fields of Myrtle Beach and Tammy Campbell and husband, Mark of Chesapeake; son-in-law, Larry Fields and wife, Mary Ann of Charlottesville; sister, Wanda McKay and husband, Raymond of Stuarts Draft; step-brother, Randy Cooper of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Shawn, Amy, Jason, Heather and Dustin Fields of Richmond, Ashley Henriquez and husband, Joseph of Florida, Tyler Wichael and Amber Wilson of Waynesboro; great-grandchildren, Campbell, Braydon, Tinleigh, Carter, and Kipton Fields, all of whom she loved dearly.
A private graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Augusta Memorial Park for family and close friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 301 S Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, with Pastor Barrett Owen officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Thomas Varner, Jr., Randy Varner, George Varner, Jr., Ernie Phillips, Ed Driskill, Larry Fields, Jim Short, Campbell and Braydon Fields.
Honorary pallbearers will be Verlan Phillips, Richard Curry, Phil Sparks, Frank Mika, Jerry Campbell, Stu Crow and Woody Carr.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
