Ann Sherburne (Rolfe) Symroski died peacefully at Sentara Hospital on June 10, 2018, in Williamsburg, VA at the age of 96. She was born in New Brunswick, NJ, on November 11, 1921, only child and daughter of Onslow Sherburne Rolfe and Nan Elizabeth Rolfe. Ann Sherburne’s earliest childhood memories began when her father, Captain Rolfe, was assigned to Scofield Barracks in Hawaii. Little did Ann Sherburne know that this journey to an exciting and unknown destination would prove to be but the first of many in her chosen future as an Army daughter and Army wife. December 19, 1942, Ann married Lt. Colonel Charles A Symroski; her residences as an Army wife included assignments throughout the United State, France, Germany, and South Viet Nam. In 1970, after Chuck’s retirement from the military, they opted to build a home in Queens Lake. Ann chanced upon an advertisement for an escort/historical interpreter position with Colonial Williamsburg and enjoyed ten fulfilling years in this rewarding role. In 1994, Chuck and Ann relocated to The Landing; Ann served a term as president of the Residents’ Association and received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for coordination of the United Way letter-stuffing campaign. . Ann was an active member of the Green Spring Garden Club, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia Susan Constant Committee, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Comte de Grasse Chapter, Bruton Parish Church, Army Daughters, Jamestown Rediscovery Society, Delta Delta Delta Fraternity Theta Zeta Chapter at the University of Texas, and the Williamsburg Society of West Point Graduates. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine Cameron of Columbia, MO; Mary Abbot Koop and her husband Stephen Douglas Koop of Essex, MA; and Joan Symroski Rolfe and her partner Randall Lee Sinnott of Eugene, OR; five grandchildren, Robert Rolfe Gilliland and his wife Lorien Meadows Gilliland, Justin Charles Rolfe-Redding, Ian Robert Rolfe-Redding, Elizabeth Anne Koop, and Charles Douglas Koop; two great-grandchildren Anna Denise Gilliland and Tobias Eric Gilliland. Anderson Auditorium at Williamsburg Landing.
