Obituary of Sharon "ShaSha" Douglas

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Douglas, Beverly Sharon, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 16, 2018 after a long battle with breast cancer. Sharon, as she was known to family and friends, was born to the late Hoy and Reva Stout on March 1, 1939 in Copen, WV. One of five children, she and the family moved to Williamsburg, VA in 1946. She graduated from James Blair High School in 1957 and from Longwood College’s two year business program in 1959. After college, she married her high school sweetheart, Clarence E. Douglas (Doug) on June 19, 1959. After a brief move to California and the birth of their first child Scott, the young family permanently moved back to Williamsburg, Virginia. Once back in Virginia, Sharon and Doug grew their family to include three more sons. They moved to Norge and lived a life surrounded by extended family, friends and horses. After the boys were grown, Sharon went to work for the City of Williamsburg in Social Services and the Department of Recreation, retiring after 25 years at the age of 66. Although Sharon was accomplished in many things, she would tell you her greatest accomplishment was being the proud grandmother to her ten grandchildren and four college graduate sons. Our beloved “ShaSha”, as she was affectionately known, attended all events that involved her grandchildren, from their births to their sporting events, to their graduations. She never missed a birthday card or the opportunity to sing them a song. The family summers were spent sitting on the porch swing at her house on the York River surrounded by family, great food, music and laughter. It is where wonderful memories were made that will last a lifetime. Her life can be summed up in two words, her family. Her parents, Hoy and Reva Stout, and her in-laws, C.E. and Ruby Douglas, precede Sharon in death. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Doug; four sons, Raymond Scott (Janet), Mark Edward (Susan), David Craig (Kathy), and Todd Lee (Lisa); ten grandchildren, Sarah Bradley, Maddy, Craig, Gracie, Hannah, Kenzie, Lara Ann, Hayden, Dana and Palmer; three brothers, Jerry Stout (Shirley), Janny Stout (Carol) and Errol Stout (Sylvia); one sister, Lois Bodie (Bill); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the wonderful people who walked this journey with us including, but not limited to, Dr. Christina Prillaman, Susan Hubbard, R.N., the staff of At Home Hospice Care, and the staff of Edgeworth Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 6-8PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Anon Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606 (www.cancer.org). Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
