Doris Elizabeth Morgan Owens

Doris Elizabeth Morgan Owens, 96, of Roanoke, passed away on June 11, 2013. Born June 28, 1916 in Altavista, VA to the late Benjamin Wesley Morgan and Angie Elizabeth Hudson Morgan, Doris served for many years as a bookkeeper for a wholesale florist. She attended Averett College and was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church. In leisure hours, she enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and reading. Doris was preceded in death by her loving son, Woodrow ‘Jack’ Edwards, her granddaughter, Jacqueline G. Edwards; as well as nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Rowena ‘Jill’ Wade and her husband, Ronald L. Wade; five grandchildren, Kathleen E. Brant, Michael G. Edwards, Karen W. Smiley, Ronda W. Taylor, and Wesley T. Wade; two step-grandchildren, Wendy J. Carter and Steve L. Jones; three great-grandchildren, Gunther Smiley, Mariah Smiley, and Paul Taylor; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 17 at 11 AM at Green Hill Cemetery, 300 Westwood Dr, Altavista, VA. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.
