George Marshall Osborne, 101, passed away on April 6, 2014, at Patriots Colony Convalescent Center. George was born in Lewiston, Idaho, raised in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1935 and Chicago Medical School in 1938. He practiced medicine and performed general surgery in Chicago. In 1959, he started a new career as a Senior Surgeon with the VA Hospital in Lake City Florida and retired in 1981 from the VA in Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Ethel Femrite Osborne; his second wife of 18 years, Margaret (Peggy) Steffens Osborne; and his brother, Lester, a doctor in Seattle, Wash. George lived in Tampa, FL, 23 years. Last year, George moved to Patriots Colony in Williamsburg, VA, to be close to his relatives. He is survived by four sons, George, II, Ronald, Robert, and James; eight grandchildren, Shelley, Marshall, Douglas, Robin, David, Kimberly, Michelle, and Carrie; and ten great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Bailey, Cooper, Conner, Justin, Reuther, Bauer, Mariam and Alexander. In WWII, George served as a CPT MC USA with the 106th Infantry Division, ETO and received the Combat Medical Badge and Bronze Star. Hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, motorcycles, music, cars, playing the trumpet, dancing and travel were his passions. He had a wonderful life! He was a lifelong Christian, Mason and Shriner and belonged to the NRA, SCCA, US Power Squadron and veterans associations. A service will be held in VA for family and friends at Patriots Colony on April 11. A second memorial service with military honors will be held at Florida Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, at a date and time to be determined.
