Obituary of James Thomas Jones

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

James T. “Jimmy” Jones, 62, a native and lifelong resident of Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2013, quietly and peacefully, with his wife by his side. Born September 20, 1950, he was preceded in death by his father, Charles T. Miller and his grandparents, Quincy and Sadie Guilliams. In his early career, Jimmy worked at Rich’s and Pantry Pride in Williamsburg. He served as the Web Press Shift Supervisor at the Virginia Gazette Chesapeake Printing Division for 19 ½ years. Jimmy was a devoted husband, a dedicated father and a very proud “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren. He was a history buff, loved golf, and was a diehard NASCAR fan. He and Debbie spent many date nights riding down the Colonial Parkway and around Jamestown Island. Jimmy took great pride and had much joy as Santa Claus for all of Williamsburg, greeting children during the week and at the Annual Christmas Parade in the 1980’s. He donned Santa’s hat for 11 years. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Deborah Holland Jones; two daughters, Robin and her husband, Mark Mogle, of Sterling, VA; and Annie and her husband, David Stuppy of James City County; four grandchildren, Sarah Faith and Rory James Mogle, and Quincy Russell Hinrichs and Jameson William Stuppy; his mother, Sarah Miller; and three sisters, Sue J. Tuftee, Betsy Lippert, and Jennifer Ryan, all of Williamsburg. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, Station #1, P.O. Box 382, Toano, VA 23168. The family offers sincere thanks to Dr. Booth with Virginia Oncology and his dedicated Williamsburg staff, as well as Dr. Bruce Mayer and Hospice Community Care of Newport News. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.
