Obituary of Joanne (Marion Joan Elizabeth) Batten
BATTEN, Joanne (Marion Joan Elizabeth) (nee Curtis) Died peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living surrounded by loved ones, on January 17, 2022 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Victor Batten (2014). Dear stepmother of David and Patricia Batten. Dear step grandmother of Jarrod (Lauren), Jenna (Greg), Jordan (Christina) and Jason (Candace). Dear gramma of Blade, Henry, Rowan, Charlotte and Jetson. Dear sister of the late Arthur, Iila (Frank), Paul survived by Donna, Dorothy (Jim), Ruth (Gwynn), and John survived by Lois. Dear aunt of Lynn (Mike), Gail (Pierre), Sharon, Bonnie (Dale), Kurt, Tammy (Robert), Cynthia (David) and Lorne (Mary). Dear cousin of Tom (Susan). Joanne’s marriage to Victor brought her great joy and adventurous travels. She was a dedicated caregiver to Victor in his later years. She will be greatly missed by those who cherished spending time with her, sharing good food and laughter together. Her career as a nurse was long and rich: she trained under the old Grace hospital apprentice model and she witnessed many changes in nursing practice throughout her career. Hours of uproarious laughter would ensue when she and her classmates gathered to reminisce . She saw herself blessed by these lifelong co-workers and friends. Our deepest thanks go to friends, neighbours and family who were by her side and supporting her in a myriad of ways. The staff at Sunrise deserve great praise for their care, concern and loving support. They went above and beyond to ensure Joanne was treated with dignity and respect. As family members, we were left in awe by the small but significant gestures the staff offered to Joanne. Joanne will be dearly missed by family and friends. Her faith in God never wavered and sustained her through her whole life. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Walkerville at a later date. In kindness memorial tributes to the Sunshine Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
