Blanca M. Goodwin
April 19, 1939 – January 24, 2021
Blanca M. Goodwin, 81, of Bloomington passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at I. U. Health, Bloomington Hospital. She was born April 19, 1939 in Esperanza, Cortez, Honduras to Martin and Rosaura Munoz. She was retired from Indiana University.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Goodwin of Bloomington; a son, Mark (Lynn) Goodwin of Holland, IN; two sisters, Noemi Munoz of New York and Dionica Munoz of Honduras; a brother, Manuel Munoz of Honduras; five grandchildren, Marcassa Goodwin of Lebanon, Chayton Goodwin of Bloomington, and Jaylynn, Garrett and Katelynn Goodwin of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raul, Marcos and Alfanzo; two sisters, Melida and Iris; and a foster brother, Modesdo Gonsales.
Blanca was a women of Christ and a lifetime member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and was a member of the choir there. She came to America in 1962 to assist her brother as his seeing eyes since he was blinded in an accident and needed surgical intervention that could only be performed here. She became a U. S. citizen in 2012 which was a “great day” in her life. Many have fond memories of Blanca’s laughter and socialness as well as her fond love for cooking and music. Many will remember her as never meeting a stranger, and as one of the longest living kidney transplant recipients with the same kidney for 35 years. Her independent spirit made her one of a kind. Blanca worked at Bloomington Hospital in the cafeteria and RCA. Her most rewarding job was working in the Residence Halls at Indiana University where she met several students and was proud to call them family.
