Argyrios Emanuel Fliakas of Arlington, VA passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2021. He is predeceased by his parents, Emanuel and Marianthe, as well as his older sister, Argyritsa Tsakatoura, and younger brother, Harry Fliakas.
Argyrios was born February 5, 1933 in Velvento, Greece and arrived in the US in 1951. Shortly after his arrival to the states, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the service in 1955, Argyrios met and married his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Pizzi) Fliakas. He began his career in the hospitality industry, but quickly discovered his passion for being a restauranteur, owning several restaurants and bringing delicious food to the people of Arlington over the years.
Argyrios is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter, Diane Senyitko (Rick); sisters, Eva Fliakas and Eleni Mathios (Taki) of Velvento; grandchildren, Melissa, Lauren, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Trystan and Juliette.
A visitation will be held for Argyrios on Thursday, February 11 from 4 PM until 8 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St. in Falls Church, VA. He will be laid to rest at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Hwy. in Falls Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, DC. A Celebration of Life for Argyrios will be planned for a later date.
