Obituary of James B. Morton
James B. Morton of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital on February 6, 2021, in Newburgh, Indiana, at the age of 90. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Morton; his parents, Joseph and Glenna Morton; and sisters, Dorothy Morton and Joann Schultz. He is survived by four children: Jeff (Kristy) Morton of Oklahoma City, John (Emily) Morton of Henderson, Joseph (Lynn) Morton of Henderson, and Jerry (Michelle) Morton, of Union, Ky.; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Dale Morton, of Fairport, New York. He was born on September 30, 1930, in Wintersville, Ohio, and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in accounting and finance. Upon graduating, he married Jane Wilson, his high school sweetheart, in 1952, and then entered the US Army where he was stationed at Ft. Knox. Jim began his professional career at General Motors in Saginaw, Michigan and later at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio and Spartanburg, South Carolina. As a member of its corporate office, Jim was part of a team that ultimately chose Henderson, Kentucky as a plant site for Firestone Steel Products. Upon completion of the plant, Jim became comptroller in 1974 and continued in a similar managerial capacity when the business became known as Accuride in 1987. Jim retired in 1995. He was an active member of the Henderson Lions Club, of which he served as club president and International Governor. He and his wife, Jane, enjoyed traveling to numerous countries of the world, both as representatives of the Lions Club and for personal enjoyment. Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Henderson Lions Club or St. Anthony's Hospice. The family would like to extend special thanks to Jim's caregivers, Joan Brock, Sue Kincade, and Angela Banks for their dedication, and to all previous caregivers and health care professionals.
