Obituary of Barbara Whitlock
Barbara Joyce Whitlock was born on September 7, 1942 in Wheatland, Indiana. She was the third child of Rexford Allen Mitchell and Nettie Louise Johnson Mitchell. Barbara her early education in a one room schoolhouse. At that time appropriately named The Colored School. She later graduated from the newly integrated Wheatland High School. Barbara attended Vincennes University earning her Associated Degree in 1963. She continued her education journey taking classed at IUPUI for childhood Psychology. Barbara was baptized in the White River and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Wheatland. Barbara attended Sunday School and sang in the choir. Barbara relocated to Evansville, Indiana where she met and married Riley Whitlock. To this union their son, Richard Bradley was born. While living in Evansville, Barbara began her career at AT&T. She later transferred to AT&T in Indianapolis, Indiana. She retired with over 30 years of service in 1995. Barbara joined The Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Rev. Ollie J. Reeves. She served on the Usher Board, Pastor’s Aid Committee and occasionally Friday Night Lights, Barbara had a special talent and passion for sewing, crafts and baking. Her homemade breakfast and dinner rolls left a lasting memory if you were fortunate enough to savory one. Barbara also enjoyed skating! She gifted all her great grandchildren skated in hopes skating might become a new regeneration for the family. On Friday, February 19th at 10:45 a.m., Barbara went from labor to reward. Waiting to greet her along with her parents were her brothers, Donald Richard, Gary David (Marva) and sister Janice Darlene Mitchell Croomes (Charles). Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, son Richard Bradley; three grandchildren, Richard Harper, Tyrese Brandon Whitlock, and Brittani Michelle Whitloock Hanif (Mohammed) and six great grandchildren, nephews, Craig Edward Croomes. Nieces Caren Elaine Croomes Johnson and Shanonon Mitchel, Denis Elonda Jo Mitchell Duprey (Sal), Anna Louise Mitchell Baldison and six great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
