Obituary of Lawrence J. Koopman
Lawrence Koopman, 87 years young, passed away February 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 8, 1933 to the late Henry and Agnes Smith Koopman. Dad was called home by the Lord to spend eternity with the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Darlene. He is survived by five children; Peter Koopman (Peggy), Becky Koopman Adams (Bob), Ron Koopman (Melinda), Kathy Hash and Mary Kraha (Tony); ten grandchildren, Emily Broderick (Adam), Amy Niemeier (Art), Melanie Clemmer (Tyson), Eric Koopman (Sarah), Ashley Huber (Paul), Roxanne Koopman (Kara), Amanda Smith, Becca Koopman, Tyler Adkinson (Erin) and Amy Brose (Kay); 18 great grandchildren, Sy and Jonah Broderick; Alton Niemeier; Brody, Troy and Audrey Clemmer; Ethan, Noah, Allie, and Parker Koopman; Nicholas and Rocelynn Koren; Chloe, Emma Deweese, Isla Elswick, Benjamin Adkinson; Emma and Mason Brose; three brothers, Raymond (Shirley) Koopman, Charles (Mary Ellen) Koopman and Norbert (Mary) Koopman; in-laws, Vincent (Martha Lee) Stumler, Carol (Richard) Ralph and Judy (Steve) Schleicher. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Darlene Koopman; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stumler; two brothers, Bernard Koopman and Eddie (Joy) Koopman; two brother-in-laws, Donnie and Jim. Dad worked till he was 80 years old. His career started at Louisville Gas and Electric, he then started his own electrical business (Star Electric) with the assistance of his two sons and nephews. After several years he sold the business to his nephew, Larry Stumler, he then moved to General Electric where he retired at the age of 65. Then along with partners, Mike McMahon, Bill Wead, and Dan Dewitt, started a new business, Test and Controls International where he retired at the age of 80, having worked alongside his grandson Eric for the last 17 years, who continues to carry on his legacy with TCI. Dad was blessed to be surrounded by many friends, family and neighbors whom he truly cherished. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street. A Private Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church- Starlight Indiana, 8310 St. John Road, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119 with burial to follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery.
