Obituary of Viola Becoat Taylor
Viola Becoat Taylor was born in Pamplico, South Carolina on September 9, 1930 to Novella Robinson and Henry Becoat, at their home on the ranch. She was one of the eldest daughters and helped care for her younger siblings. Following her formal education, Viola married Leroy Campbell, who proceeded her in death, and migrated with their growing family to New York City in search of better opportunities. The union produced three daughters, Esther, Bertha and Winifred (Ann). Following the death of her first husband, Viola married Charles Taylor, who helped raise her three beautiful daughters. For over 30 years Viola Taylor worked hard doing domestic work and volunteering her time at Dewitt Reformed Church, where she became a Deaconesses, in addition to being an avid member of the choir and regularly attended bible studies. She spent her life helping others and ensuring that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were cared for and maintained a connection to their Becoat and Robinson family roots. Upon retirement, Viola spent a few years back home in Pamplico, SC, before spending her remaining days with her daughter Bertha and son-in-law Robelto, first in Georgia and then Virginia. Viola gave us ninety beautiful years of laughter and love and was known to family as the dancing queen. Her family and her unwavering faith were two of the most important aspects of her life. Viola is survived by her daughter Bertha (Robelto) Joshua; brother Calvin (Henriette) Becoat; sisters Rozena Davis and Rachel Becoat; son-in-law Walter Biggett; grandchildren Maurice Joshua, Tilia (Allen) Joshua Stotts, Samuel Joshua, Gabriel Joshua, Leshan Campbell, Regina Leecraft, Blake Campbell and Walter Franklin Biggett; great-grandchildren: Gabryana Joshua, Lakiya Joshua, Aalasia Joshua, Gabar Joshua, Gabrielle Joshua, Dean Stotts, Emma Stotts, Angelica Campbell, Sarah Goode, Noah Poole, Noel Poole and Siarah Poole; great-great-granddaughter Eva Owens, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
