Alexander Funeral Home-West Chapel
Viola Strueh Lutz was born to Carl and Luella (Lengelsen) Strueh on May 14, 1927.
Thus began nearly 93 years of service to others and loving dedication to her family.
Vi's journey on Earth ended on February 22, 2021.
Vi was the fifth of six children in the Strueh family who were raised on the family farm in western Vanderburgh County. Vi, along with two older sisters, two older brothers, and one younger brother, were in a typical environment of those times that consisted of hard work and dedication to family and friends. Those were the attributes that carried her through her long life's journey. Vi was a proud 1945 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and a 1949 graduate of Deaconess School of Nursing. Upon graduation from Deaconess, Vi embarked on a lifetime of service to others with a lengthy career in nursing. The last 32 years of which were with Evansville Surgical Associates.
Vi loved attending Reitz Football Games, planning parties and reunions, being with friends, and spending time with her family. Vi was a lifetime member of her family's church, Salem (Huesler) United Church of Christ. There she served as the first woman president of the church council, chaired many committees, accompanied Pastor Al on home visits to help him administer Communion to the shut-ins, and served as a Diaconate. She enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday mornings.
Among those who have passed before her were her parents, former husband Jack Lutz, her brothers, Arthur (Darleen) Strueh and Donald (Betty) Strueh, her sisters, Luella (Harris) Crawford, and Loretta (Vernie) Bender. She was preceded in death by great niece, Lisa Strueh, and great-great nephew, Dylan Kneer.
Survivors include her brother, Gilbert (Wilma deceased) Strueh of Baton Rouge, LA;
nieces and nephews who meant so much to her; godchildren, Terry (Karen) Strueh, Lafayette, IN, Carla (Allen) Graves, Baton Rouge, LA, and Philip Jarvis, Evansville, IN; caregivers, LaDonna (Roger) Jarvis, Newburgh, IN and Harris (Debbie) Strueh, Evansville, IN. Other nieces and nephews are Ken (Linda) Strueh, Evansville, IN, Tim (Barb) Strueh, Linden, IN, Sylvia (Scott) Bechtel, Lafayette, IN, Dianna (Greg) Bonaventure, Zachary, LA, Darrell Strueh, Pride, LA, Bob (Vickie) Bender, Becky Bender, Evansville, IN, Carolyn (Bill deceased) Donnelly, Washington D.C., Nancy Crawford, Rochester, NY, and Susan (Bob deceased) Herpy, Geneva, OH. She is also survived by cousins, many great and great-great nieces and nephews and a special friend, Bill Pickle.
Vi's journey on earth will surely bring a chorus of "Well done, thou good and faithful servant". Her laugh and quick wit will be missed by all who knew her.
