Rufus Maurice Green

Rufus Maurice Green was born in Bassett, Virginia on April 16, 1961 and he left us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2021. He grew up in Bassett, Virginia where he attended Henry County Public Schools and graduated from Bassett High School. While in high school, Rufus participated in sports as an active member of the basketball team. He accepted Christ and was baptized in Oklahoma while on active duty in the military. Rufus had many career experiences. As a young adult, he served in the Air National Guard for eight years. Rufus was employed in Bassett as a Grounds Keeper for WM Bassett Estates. Rufus later decided to be an entrepreneur and became the proud owner/operator of a long-distance trucking business. After many years of cross-country truck driving, Rufus moved to Richmond where he attended massage school and drove for a Richmond limousine service. Rufus was extremely artistic and talented with his hands. He enjoyed creatively inventing, building, and repairing numerous objects. Some of his many projects included refurbishing boats, building barbeque pits, and completing home renovations. Rufus was gifted at landscaping, grilling and storytelling about his many travel experiences. He took pride in his work and loved seeing projects evolve from beginning to end. Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Luella Green of Bassett, and brothers Silas Green (Jacqueline), Rocky Mount, VA and Leonard Barry Green, DeSoto, TX. Rufus is survived by three sisters and three brothers: Barbara Green Harris (Lenius deceased), Richmond, VA; Herman Wayne Green (Wanda) of Bassett, VA; Patrick Green, Bassett, VA; Brenda Green Hill (Steven), Savannah, GA; Rev. Nathaniel Green (Doretha), Modesto, CA; and Cheryl Bonner, Killeen, TX; a maternal aunt Acquilla Noel and a devoted friend, Cathi Barany. He is survived by with numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives from the Taylor, Green, Perdue and Starkey families who will cherish his memory forever. A Floating Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, Virginia. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 20, 2021 in Carver Memorial Gardens. Due to Covid-19, wearing of mask and social distancing will be required.
