William (Bill) Lewis Chadwell, 92, of Falls Church, VA passed away at home on March 15, 2021 after a short illness. He was well cared for by Vitas Hospice.
Bill was born on December 12, 1928 to Gene and Mabel Chadwell in Dayton, OH. After graduating from Stanford High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean conflict and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. His division received a commendation for their excellent service. Bill attended college at the University of Kentucky when he returned home and earned an Electrical Engineering degree.
Bill met his future wife, Soula Margaritis, while studying at the University of Kentucky. They were married January 30, 1955. After graduation, he and Soula moved to the Washington DC suburbs where he worked for the Defense Department for 25 years. He enjoyed his retirement years, spending time in Florida and Ocean City, Md. He loved to golf and take his boat out fishing. His favorite first mate was his wife, Soula. Bill and Soula were lifelong fans of UK basketball.
Anyone who knew Bill knew that he was the most loving brother, father, uncle and husband a family could ask for. He is survived by his sister, Caroline Lancaster and brother Lloyd Chadwell, his son Michael (Eveli) Chadwell, daughter Elaine (Denny) Matheny, four grandchildren, Grant (Nikki) Matheny, Blair (Neil) Bumgarner, Elise and Katelyn Chadwell, and three great grandchildren, Will, Elliot and Lennon.
The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers. There will be a graveside service with social distancing and masks at The Lexington Cemetery on April 9 at 3:00 pm. Murphy Funeral Home of Falls Church and Kerr Brothers Funeral Home of Lexington, KY are providing assistance to the family.
