Murphy Funeral Homes

Lois Ann Edmiston Hempfling passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021 with her daughter Cathy by her side. She was born on July 30, 1931 in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Edmiston, and sister of Suzanne Menaugh of Bloomington, Indiana, who preceded her in death. She lived in Indianapolis and then Noblesville, Indiana with her late husband, Joseph Hempfling. She is survived by her only daughter, Catherine Soltys, son-in-law Peter, and granddaughters Madison and Lillian. She moved to Falls Church, Virginia to be closer to them after her husband’s death. Lois Ann graduated from Bedford High School, and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. After moving to Indianapolis, she worked in the publishing industry until her marriage in 1962, at which time she proudly became a full-time homemaker and then mother. She was an advocate for children most of her adult life, serving on various committees and boards for Warren Township Schools. She served as president of Kappa Kappa Sigma, Mu Chapter, Bedford. She was a longtime volunteer greeter at Conner Prairie Living History Museum in Fishers, Indiana. Lois Ann was an avid golfer and bridge player, which she and her husband enjoyed doing together. They both cheered vigorously for Joe’s alma mater, Notre Dame and attended as many football games in South Bend as possible. Lois Ann will be inurned with her beloved husband Joe at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to The First United Methodist Church of Noblesville, Indiana at 2051 Monument Street, Noblesville, Indiana 46060.
