Obituary of Kaye D Gannon
Kaye D. Platner Gannon, 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at home in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was born and raised in Columbia City, Ind, daughter of the late Clarence A. and Deane Sheeler Platner. Kaye was involved in Girl Scouting all of high school and traveled by train to Cueravaca, Mexico her senior year to the Girl Scout Cabana with many other Scouts and Toured Mexico City, and surrounding areas. She was involved in the 1956 Girl Scout Roundup camping in MI with 5,000 girls from all over the world. Kaye attended Wittenberg College in Springfield, OH for 2 years. She received a BS in Education from Ball State University in 1964 and a MS in Education at IU Fort Wayne in 1980. Kaye taught elementary school in Centerville, Ind and Downers Grove, IL. She was also a substitute teacher for Fort Wayne community Schools. East Allen Schools, a Title 1 Program and substitute teacher at Central Lutheran School. She volunteered for Project Reads and early childhood Literacy at the YMCA. Kaye also did private tutoring. She also volunteered for Fort4Fitness. Kaye received a Real Estate license in the 70’s and worked in the field for a short time. After retiring from teaching, started working with husband’s home-based business, Web Printing Connection, Print Brokers, in 2000 to present. Kaye enjoyed playing doubles tennis, walking, exercising at the YMCA, scrapbooking, researching family genealogy, and loved spending time with family-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Richard Gannon and daughters, Annette Pearson and Suzanne Derheimer. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday, April 4, 2021 from 12pm to 4pm at Kaye and Richard’s home in Fort Wayne, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Heart Research. Arrangement entrusted to D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Funeral Home.
