Wayne "Mike" Michael Smith
June 19, 1941 – April 2, 2021

Wayne Michael (“Mike”) Smith, 79, of Lynchburg, VA passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2021, with his family at his bed side, after a long battle with Covid-19.
He was born on June 19, 1941 in Monroe, VA. He was the oldest son of the late Benjamin Lafayette Smith and Elsie McIvor Smith of Monroe Virginia.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (“Sally”) Ford Smith.
He is survived by his two sons, Kenneth Wayne Smith and Diane Smith of Forest VA and Michael Ray Smith of Lynchburg and “Giggles”. He is also survived by his Grandson, Robert (Bobby)Wayne Smith and (Kera) of Clifford, VA, his brother, Ronald L. Smith of Madison Heights, two sisters Sherry S. Knowles and (John) of Forest, and Kay S. Davis of Lynchburg and several nieces and nephews.
Mike proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Waldo County where he visited many foreign countries including Italy and Greece.
Mike was retired from Wilson Trucking (“Slow Poke”) where he worked as a long-haul driver. This allowed him to cross the United States many times and enjoyed seeing much of the US.
Mike loved attending gun shows and collecting guns. He enjoyed classic car cruise in events. He always enjoyed seeing his friends at the County Line Flea market every weekend.
He was a wonderful and loving caretaker for his late wife Sally and to his late mother Elsie.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning 11:00 at Fort Hill Memorial Park Lynchburg, Virginia.
