Alice Joyce Foland

Alice Joyce Foland, 94, passed away on April 15, 2021. She was born on March 9, 1927 in Elwood, Indiana where her parents, Howard and Goldie Elmore, owned Elmore’s Creamery. One of her fondest childhood memories was climbing up the pipes of the giant milkshake mix machine with a spoon to eat the ice cream that had condensed on the pipes! When she was a teenager, Alice’s father taught her to fly a small plane, and she got lessons to fly solo as a high school graduation gift. She graduated from Columbia College in Missouri in 1946 and married the love of her life, Bill Foland. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together, mostly in Fort Wayne, before Bill passed away in 2014. Alice’s uncanny charm stemmed from the fact that she was genuinely interested in everything and everyone; she had a talent for making people feel special! She loved decorating, sewing, woodworking, music and dancing; she still played the piano and worked jigsaw puzzles at age 94. Surviving are her loving daughters, Barb Mathews and Nancy Foland. Alice was the most wonderful wife and mother anyone could ever ask for and will be dearly missed! All services will be private. Memorials may be made to Animal Care and Control, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of your choice.
