William Ludwig Ewald

July 24, 1929April 25, 2021
William L. Ewald, 91, departed this life on April 25, 2021 leaving his loving wife of 63 years, daughter Pauline, son William Douglas (Susanne) and grandson William Johann to cherish his memory. Bill was born in Johnstown, PA and served for four years in the United States Navy. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Thiel College where he was President of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and went on to complete graduate engineering studies at Penn State University. In addition to being a proud Navy veteran, Bill was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh sports franchises most particularly the Steelers. Following in the footsteps of his own father, he was inducted into the Masonic Order at the Argus Lodge # 545 in Canfield Ohio and counted his bible and apron among his treasures. Bill immensely enjoyed his days at the Hanover Country Club golfing and socializing with friends. In his trademark Steelers coat and cap, he was always recognized as the owner of the Bell, Book & Candle Bookstore in Ashland which he operated for thirty years after his retirement from engineering. It was his great joy to welcome customers to the shop for help in locating an impossible to find book or to share a chat and a laugh. Friends and neighbors are invited to join the family at Bell, Book & Candle on May 7, 2021 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. to remember Bill. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to Bill’s favorite charity, the Shriner’s Hospital for Children – 2900 Rocky Point Road – Tampa, Florida 33607. “Beyond the sea of pain - In heaven I will wait - Until we meet again”
