July 14, 1918-Cairo, Egypt - April 22, 2021-Annandale, VA Asma (Samia) Bentley, 102, of Annandale, VA, passed peacefully on April 22 at Leewood Assisted Living in Annandale, VA. Samia was born in Cairo, Egypt to Marie and Daniel Zohrob on July 14, 1918, the eldest of three children. She was educated in the British schools in Cairo and obtained a degree in English. She met her husband, Norman John Bentley in Cairo when he was working at the American Embassy and she was hired by the Embassy to tutor him in Arabic. They married on March 1, 1946, and spent 51 happy years together until his death in 1997. They spent many years traveling for Norman’s job as a US Foreign Service diplomat, and Samia was the consummate foreign service wife. Family was everything to Samia, and she took great pride in her home, her four children, her seven grandsons, and her three great-grandchildren. She loved family times and holidays, especially family Christmas celebrations. Samia was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Annandale for 58 years, and was active in the Women’s Circle there until she entered Assisted Living at age 100. Samia is preceded in death by both her parents; by her husband, Norman Bentley; her daughter, Dr. Joan Bentley-Mussen; and her brother, Sami Zohrob. Samia is survived by many loving family: her daughters, Joyce Bentley (Bill), and Nora Dziuban (Bob); her son, Dr. Russell Bentley (Dr. Michelle Bentley); her sister, Adele “Dolly” Hazel; her son-in-law, Dr. William Mussen; her “Seven from Heaven” Grandsons: Brandon and Trevor Bentley; Keir and Gareth Mussen; and Michael, Daniel, and Matthew Dziuban; and her three Great-Grandchildren: Gwendy Mussen; and Henry and Annie Dziuban. Visitation will be held on May 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. Memorial Service will be held on May 7, 2021 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Annandale, 7610 Newcastle Dr, Annandale, VA. Graveside Service will be held on May 7, 2021 at 11:30 am at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA. Donations in memory of Samia may be sent in her name to First Presbyterian Church of Annandale, 7610 Newcastle Drive, Annandale, VA 22003. “What we keep in memory is ours, unchanged forever.”
