Obituary of Susan Stone Belton
With joy for her life, the family of Susan Stone Belton is saddened to announce that she passed away on May 18th at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC. Susan was born on September 21, 1959 to Martha Austin Stone and the late George Willis Stone, Jr. A 1977 graduate of John D. Bassett High School, Susan was also a graduate of Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University. In addition to her mother, Susan is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 33 years, Barry Keith Belton, son of the late Robert (Bob) Allen Belton and the late Doris Ellis Belton. She is also survived by her sister, Debra Stone Aufrance (Jack), her sister-in-law Anne Belton Turner (Donnie), and niece Caroline Gray Turner. She was treasured by her numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and was especially close to her aunt Kathryn Austin Keck. Susan’s love for her family and friends was infectious! She loved cooking and traveling—especially to the beach where she loved listening to beach music. She enjoyed animals, and her cat Tyson was her joy. She loved to name the wildlife around her house, watching “Chippie” the chipmunk, “Squirley” the squirrel, “Ruby” the hummingbird, and even the deer that would eat her tomatoes. Susan was a probation parole officer in Henry County for several years, and loved the people she worked with, as well as all the people she helped. After moving to Charlotte, NC, Susan became a successful and respected business owner. She founded her own executive search company in 1991 in the South Park area of Charlotte, helping insurance companies recruit technical executives until last week. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 22nd at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, 120 Bassett Heights Road, Bassett, VA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00. Lunch, fellowship and further visitation will follow outside under the church picnic shelter. For those wishing to honor Susan through a memorial, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, P.O. Box 507, Bassett, VA 24055.
