Obituary of Thomas Irving Harris
Thomas I. Harris, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at The Waters of Greencastle. He was born on December 21, 1945, in Terre Haute to Donald E. and Dorothy (Hayes) Harris. Thomas is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pauletta Harris; his daughter, Kensley; sister, Paula Garland and husband, Robert; niece, Phylicia Garland; nephew, Ryan Garland; and numerous cousins. Thomas graduated from Garfield High School and Richmond Community College. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968. He then went to work in law enforcement as a patrolman and training officer at the Decatur Police Department in Decatur, Illinois from 1971 to 1980. Still filled with the desire to serve his country, Thomas Joined the United States Air Force in 1981, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant in January of 2000. He was Freemason at Cloverdale Lodge 132, a long-time member of American Legion Post 104, and a member of DAV Chapter 4. Thomas loved traveling, cookouts, playing cards, playing dominoes, and cruising. He was a kind and generous man who would always lend a helping hand to others. Most of all, Thomas was a devoted husband and father who cherished every moment he spent with his family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Masonic Rites provided by Cloverdale Lodge 132. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor John Campbell, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Thomas will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
