Obituary of Emeterio Herce

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Emeterio Herce, 83, was born to parents Manuel Maria Herce and Maria Barrero Garcia in Quel, Logroño, Spain on June 20, 1937. He was the beloved husband of Clara Zito de Herce, devoted father of Michael (Iole), David (Chailynn), Clarita, and proud grandfather of Lily, Clara, Luca, and Lia. In Spain, he is survived by two loving sisters, Josefina and Felisa, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Emeterio completed his undergraduate studies at the Seminaria Consilia de Logroño and at the Spanish American Seminary in Madrid. He received a Master in Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, after which he came to the U.S. to work for Catholic Services in New Britain, CT. At the same time, he earned a Master in Spanish Literature and Teacher Certification from Southern Connecticut Community College. After marriage in 1976 and earning U.S. citizenship in 1980, he worked as a teacher for Hispanic immigrants at Carlos Rosario International School for 35 years in Washington, D.C. until he retired in 2014. The heart of Emeterio’s life was his wife and children and he selflessly sacrificed everything for them. He was the rock on which his family stood - steadfast in all things. He was a man of strong faith and devotion to the church. He was a dedicated teacher and role model to his many students throughout the years. He was truly a good and holy man, a treasure to his family, and a blessing to all who knew him. A service will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, VA on Friday, June 18th beginning at 11AM. Online condolences for the family may be shared at [email protected].
