Obituary of James Roy "Jim" Calhoun, Jr.
James (Jim) Roy Calhoun Jr, 68, of Waynesboro VA, passed away on July 5, 2021. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio to James Roy Calhoun Sr. and Alberta England Young Calhoun. He grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from Hall High School (1970), and from the University of Arkansas (BA with honors in English, 1974, and an MA in English, 1978). He was a husband of 41 years, a father, a brother, a poet, a master of the Ruy Lopez and French defense, an unashamed bibliophile, and 2008’s happiest sports fan (Phillies and Celtics championships). Jim was an assistant editor at The Grapevine in Fayetteville, AR, a librarian and cataloguer at the Waynesboro Public Library, an IT specialist at Palais Royal, and an educator at St. Leo’s College, Norfolk State, Waynesboro High School and Blue Ridge Community College. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Calhoun. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Goss, and his son, Alec Calhoun (m. Casey Parrett). A public memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waynesboro, 565 Pine Ave., Waynesboro, VA on July 31, 2021 at 11 A.M.
