Obituary of Frank A. Berrie
Frank A. Berrie, 68, known as "The Maintenance Man" put down his tools, set aside his treasured memories, his pleasures, and the comforts of this Earth on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 to reunite with those that have passed before him. Frank was born on December 27, 1952 in Schwetzingen, Germany while his Father was stationed near there in the U.S. Army. After attending Hampton High School in Hampton, Virginia, he worked for the Import Shack in Mercury Mall, Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, and at Hajoka Plumbing and Heating. This is where he started learning the HVAC trade and finally settled in permanently at United Virginia Bank, now known as Sun Trust-Truit Bank. He continued training and became an experienced HVAC Technician. Frank provided the HVAC installation and maintenance support for SunTrust-Truit Banks on the Eastern Shore, Southside, the Peninsula, and Williamsburg. He retired with over 30 years of service. Frank loved hunting and fishing. As a member of LAF-A-LOT Hunt Club he was able to take advantage of both. He loved spending time with his close friends during hunting season at the hunting cabin, and with his family during the summer season at the fishing cabin. He wasn't a man that easily revealed his feelings except in how he cared for and provided for his family. He loved his girls; Terry, Kimberly, and Laura, and always set aside time for them to be together as a family during summer vacations. Frank was a Small Arms enthusiast but one of his greatest passions was fireworks and pyrotechnics. Every year for the 4th of July, the Wythe neighborhood in Hampton would close off a street and he would set off a home-made pyrotechnic display that rivaled Zambeli Fireworks. All of the neighbors would come out and enjoy the display, especially the children. Frank's last years were spent with his sister, Clarrissa in Yorktown, who provided for all of his home care as he fought off the ravages of throat cancer. He had the best care anyone could have asked for thanks to her. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Emile A. and Gerda T. Berrie; and his brother, Michael E. Berrie. He is survived by his wife, Terry Berrie; daughters, Kimberly B. Falls (Craig), and Laura B. Harrington (Micah); grandchildren, Conner and Kaylie Falls, and Aurie and Zoey Harrington; sister, Clarrissa M. Thomas (Stan); and a host of lifelong friends, especially Doug Rogers and Paul Lawson. A special thanks to the Nursing staff, CNA's, and Management at Regency Rehabilitation Center in Yorktown, who became Frank's extended family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va 23666 with a reception to follow. The family requests that all guests please wear a mask. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
