Jack Lee Ulsh, age 90, of Falls Church, VA passed away at home, with his wife, Inês and daughter Angela by his side, on Tuesday the 7th of September 2021. He was born in Harrisburg, PA to Joseph and Eleanor (Campbell) Ulsh and grew up near Altoona, PA. He attended Hollidaysburg High School, Juniata College, Middlebury College and Cornell University, studying, and mastering modern languages. He moved to the Washington D.C area in 1955 to serve as a linguistics scientist at the Foreign Service Institute of the State Department. There he authored manuals in Spanish, French and Portuguese, and the book “From Spanish to Portuguese.” He retired from the State Department in 1985 as head of their Romance Language Department. Jack loved nature and spent his last 30 years in charge of his own company, Landcrafters. He was a certified landscape designer and loved getting his hands dirty on the job. His works can be seen at many residences throughout the greater D.C area. His tell-tale signature is a dry riverbed. He is predeceased by his brother, Wayne Ulsh, and is survived by his wife, Inês (de Freitas), his children; Linda Teller, Gregory Ulsh, and Angela Ulsh, and grandchildren; Alexandra and John Ulsh. A Mass for Jack was held Thursday September 16, 2021 at 1:30pm at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Falls Church. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church from 2-6pm for those who wish to pay their respects. There will be no viewing or official service.
