Obituary of Lyle ONeal Wiggins Jr.

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Surrounded by loved ones, Lyle Oneal Wiggins Jr., or ‘Oneal’ as he was known to most, peacefully departed this life as the sun set on September 9, 2021. The son of Lyle and Gladys Wiggins of Williamsburg, VA, Oneal, 62, was born in Newport News, VA on June 26, 1959. He graduated from Bruton High School in Williamsburg in 1978, attended Ferrum University, and graduated from Commonwealth College where he studied to become a Travel Agent. Though a long-time resident of the Williamsburg area, he moved to Virginia Beach, VA in 1992, prior to his marriage to spouse Jennifer Forbes Wiggins. Oneal is predeceased by his parents, Lyle and Gladys, and a brother, Johnny Wiggins of Williamsburg, VA. Left to rejoice in his memory are the great loves of his life, wife, Jennifer Wiggins of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Aaron Wiggins and partner, Megan Lindstrom of Denver, CO; daughter, Brittany Hunt and husband Michael of Columbia, MD; son, Daniel Wiggins of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Tammy Schumacher and husband Jim; and brother, Greg Wiggins and wife Donna, all of Williamsburg, VA. He was most delighted to be Paw Paw to Georgia ‘Peach’ Hunt, who was the apple of his eye. He will also be celebrated by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and countless cousins who will dearly miss him. Oneal loved his large extended family. One of the highlights of every year was helping to organize a long standing family reunion in Bryson City, NC, which thankfully he was able to attend this past June. His great passion was travel, personally and professionally, with enthusiasm only dimming in recent months due to health issues. He loved the mountains and beaches of North Carolina and New York City at Christmastime, enjoyed Colorado with Aaron and Washington DC/Maryland with Brittany, travelled to several of the Caribbean islands, explored destinations in Europe - most recently Scotland and England, and looked forward most especially to his trips to Hawaii with Danny and Jennifer. Oneal met Jennifer 30 years ago when they were both working in the travel industry. They were lucky to have shared not just an enduring love, but many fabulous adventures seeing the world together. For the last 4 years, he had worked for AAA Club Alliance Inc. as an Executive Account Manager who was loved and respected by clients and coworkers alike. Over the years, he also shared his professionalism, management and leadership skills with CI Azumano Business Travel, American Express Travel, and Gibson Travel. Oneal loved Christmas. Shopping started in July, decorations by Halloween. He loved music. A child of the 70s and 80s, he saw every Heart concert that came to town. Oneal offered a big smile and hearty laugh to everyone he met. He had the biggest heart for his friends and family, and they are devastated to have to carry on without him. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at New Quarter Park, 1000 Lakeshead Dr., Williamsburg, VA, 23185. Visitation/reception will be at 12pm, with a service following at 2pm. All are invited to continue to stay after the service as well. Although there will be shelter, this is a casual outdoor venue to promote social distancing due to Covid concerns. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 (www.donate3.cancer.org).
