IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, Sherwood Randolph Salyer, Jr. (Randy), loving son, brother, friend, and father of Connor passed away after a courageous fight with lung cancer at the age of 56. Randy was born on November 1, 1964, in Williamsburg, Virginia to Sherwood R. (Sherry) and Margaret Vaughan (Bibby) Salyer. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1983. Randy was a Class A Contractor owning his own business C & S Contracting. He remodeled many homes in the Williamsburg area and enjoyed building custom furniture. Randy was a talented athlete. As a youngster he played little league baseball and football under the tutelage of his father at Kiwanis Park. Randy “Skeeter” played shortstop for Lafayette High School and American Legion Post 39. He continued playing softball for years at Quarter Path Park. Randy was an avid outdoorsman. He particularly enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also followed his father’s passion for rabbit hunting. Randy was in his element on many fishing trips from the Oregon Inlet and even followed his favorite captain to Mexico for the trip of a lifetime and most recently took Connor to Marathon, Florida to fish with friends. Most of all, he loved watching his son, Connor, play soccer. Wherever Connor traveled to play, Randy was on the sidelines cheering during the game. Connor is and will always be his greatest legacy. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Sherry. He is survived by his son, Connor, his mother, Bibby, his sister, Beverly Hathaway (Lee), his sister Sherri Mair (Dave), nephews Josh Hathaway (Ashton), Brandon Hathaway (Samantha), Jacob Mair, and Zachary Mair, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and exceptional friends.
