Carolyn Joan (Painter) Herring, 69, of Staunton passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg surrounded by her family.
Born April 26, 1952 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late William Lewis Painter, Sr. and Pauline (Campbell) Painter.
Carolyn was an active member of Staunton Apostolic Church where she had previously taught Sunday School. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Conagra where she worked for 30 years. Carolyn enjoyed making crafts and attending craft shows. She loved spending time with her family and her dog, Gracie. Carolyn adored children and faithfully fulfilled the roll as a foster parent to many children through the years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Glen Price and John Herring; and sister, Joyce Elaine Painter.
Survivors include her daughter, Renee Yates of Fishersville; granddaughter, Hanna Yates; brother, William L. “Billy” Painter, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Augusta County.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro with Pastor Michael Eastman officiating. Burial will follow in Fishersville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family kindly requests for those who plan to attend the service to please wear a facial covering.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Hallberg, Charlie Hallberg, Robert Brooks, Travis Painter, Scot Chancy, and Bill O’Connell.
