Edward Michael Hardiman passed away on Oct. 1, 2021 after several years of declining health. Devoted son of the late Edward J. Hardiman, Esq. and Mary Grace (Shaw/Haydock) Hardiman, Sr. Grandson of the late Michael J. and Florence Hardiman, Michael and Victoria Haydock, and Leonard August Shaw. Loyal friend to those who knew him. Noted for his sense of humor, intelligence, and quick wit. Graduate of North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA. Most recently, a resident of Bristow and Woodbridge, VA respectively. Born in Philadelphia, and raised in Elkins Park and North Wales, PA, Edward attended Gwynedd Mercy and West Point Elementary Schools, Devon Preparatory School, and North Penn High School. He later went on to pursue academic and professional interests in music, history, psychology, and writing. He attended Mt. St. Mary’s College, American University, and Temple University, among others. He earned a Paralegal Certificate from the Center for Legal Studies at George Mason University. Edward was a working journalist and communications writer in his early years. He also had a career in sales and retail. Later, he became a contributing writer and editor for several online media companies and platforms. One of his favorite assignments was as sportswriter covering the Potomac Nationals, a minor league baseball team in the DC area. His passion for covering sports culminated in One Man's Scribble: The Portable Fowl Line. Collected Sports Scribble from 2006-2007. Edward also wrote a number of short stories. In his life, Edward played chess and tennis, golfed, and was an avid fly fisherman. Edward was a sports enthusiast and a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers professional teams. He had encyclopedic knowledge of baseball down through the ages and collected vintage baseball cards. Edward was also a lifelong student of history, had a photographic memory, and was often reading five books at one time, from a very young age. His favorite writer was E.B. White. Edward was a prolific song writer and a member of several bands over the years. He later enjoyed sitting in on others. He played the electric guitar and was happiest jamming and recording songs with his friends back home in the Philly area. Edward had an impressive guitar collection, that began with an acoustic Epiphone and Les Paul Jr. and later included several Gibsons (“Black Beauty” and “Sunburst,” among his favorites), Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters, and an Epiphone Emperor (which he dubbed “Big Pink.”) Edward is survived by his two sisters, The Hon. Therese A. Hardiman, (David Malecki), Mountaintop, PA, and Mary G. Hardiman, (Michael Conyngham), Arlington, VA; two nieces, Christine Malecki and Grace Conyngham; and two great nephews, Camrinn J. and Adrian C.; two aunts, Michelle Wayne and Florence Brocato Lighter; and, several cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 1:00pm at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N. Randolph St. Arlington, VA 22207, with Rev. Peter McShurley officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church (North Wales), Musicians Foundation, Food Trust (Philadelphia), Wounded Warriors Family Support, Yellow Ribbon Fund, and the Walter Reed Society. The family appreciates the many people who touched Edward’s life down through the years, including Rev. Garrett F.X. Murphy (St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, North Wales, PA), James J. McHugh, Sr., Mary Paul Steiner, RSM, and, Sr. Jeannette Goglia, RSM, (all, Gwynedd-Mercy), and his many friends and bandmates over the years.
