Katherine Hawks Abbott, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was married to Julian Morris Abbott for 44 years before he passed away.
Katherine was born on May 24, 1923 in Bedford County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Annie and Willie Hawks. She retired as a supervisor from Imperial Reading after 39 years of service. Katherine was a member of Forest United Methodist Church for 67 years. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Dottie Mae Coleman, and her brother Carl Hawks.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Ooten; and her son J. Maurice Abbott, Jr., and his wife Ruth; her two sisters: Geraldine Hatcher, and Janet Farish; her three grandchildren: Timothy Abbott, Mark Ooten, and his wife Kelly, and Mary Ooten; her great-grandson, Logan Ooten; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Virginia Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Burleigh officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her son, J. Maurice Abbott, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Forest United Methodist Church, 1150 Burnbridge Road, Forest, VA 24551, 434-525-4025.
Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel is serving the Abbott family.
