Sadie Spencer Ashley, 94, of 2813 Skyview Trail, Martinsville, died Sunday November 20, 2011 at her residence. She was born in Martinsville on September 22, 1917 to the late Lewis G. Spencer and Queenie Dillon Spencer. She was a member of Old Center Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Roy Walter Ashley, three sisters, Hessie Barker, Violet Brammer and Goldie Clark, five brothers, David, Harvey, Robbie, Orris and Wise Spencer.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Ashley Adams and husband C. Douglas and Patty Ashley Kipfinger and husband Kelly “Randy” all of Martinsville, three sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy Ashley and wife Patricia of Lynchburg, Chancie Ashley and wife Kim of Rocky Mount and Wesley “Wes” Ashley and wife Phyllis of Martinsville, one brother Joseph Spencer of Greensboro, NC, eleven grandchildren, Jeffery, David, Susan, Kenneth, Keelie, Ray, Sandy, Kim, Chris, Tracy and Mike, and seventeen great grandchildren, Micah, Josiah, Amber, Andrew, Ashleigh, Alyssa, Addison, Abram, Abigail, Caleb, Timothy, Benjamin, Mason, Afton, James, Jonathon and Cierra, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in the Collins Funeral Home Chapel in Bassett with Minister Ray Eure officiating, interment will follow in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
