Obituary of Robert H. Austin
Robert H. Austin, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday evening, February 6, 2012 at the age of 85. Robert was born on December 16, 1926 in Princeton, the son of the late Louis and Hazel (Jones) Austin. On September 20, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Edith Wible. Together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage. Robert greatly loved his job and retired in 1983 from the U.S. Post Office, where he worked for 38 years as a rural letter carrier. He was a member of the Church of Christ, was a past state president of the Indiana Rural Letter Carriers, and a member of the National Retired Federal Employees. Robert also received a Million Mile award from the National Safety Council for driving over 25,000 hours on rural routes without an accident. He greatly loved his family, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved to sing and whistle. He will forever be remembered as a hardworking and loving man, who will be missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Edith; children, Lois and husband David Sullivan of Sarasota, FL., Eric and wife Nola Austin of Terre Haute and Caroline and husband Keith Woodason of Dalton, GA.; grandchildren, Corey, Kelsey and Kathryn Sullivan, Adam and Evan Austin and Ben, Andrea, Nathan and Lucas Woodason; one great grandchild on the way; sister, Wilma Beckerman of Princeton and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Austin, Jr. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. and again on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 9 a.m. until the time of Robert’s funeral at 10 a.m. at the Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Robert may be directed to Camp Wabashi.
