Obituary of Helen J. Husband

Helen Husband, 103 of Huntington and formerly of Roanoke passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Heritage of Huntington. Helen was active in various activities at Christ’s United Methodist Church in Roanoke where she had been life-long member. She was an avid gardener, an accredited flower show judge and wrote a gardening column for a local newspaper for many years. She was a member of the Lilac Garden Club and helped found and was a charter member of the Trilliam Garden Club of which she still is an honorary member. She gave flowers to friends and relatives alike. Starts from her flowers can be found as far away as Ann Arbor, Michigan, Porter, Indiana and many places in and around Roanoke and Fort Wayne. She kept a record of the hours spent working in her flowers and after 90 years of age, she still worked 4 to 6 hours daily tending her garden. Helen moved to the Warren Memorial Home in 2001 and later moved to the Heritage of Huntington. She was born on August 17, 1908 in Mishawaka, Indiana a daughter of Morton and Charlotte (Byler) Kitt. She was united in marriage to Clarence Husband on June 22, 1930 at the Christ’s United Methodist Church and they made their home in Roanoke. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1973. Survivors include a son: Phillip (Shirley) Husband of Fort Wayne; a daughter: Shirley (Dean) Pratt of Huntington; five grandchildren: Kelly (Mary Jane) Pratt, Jeffrey (Jean) Pratt, Holly (Ed) Nolan, Kim (Ryan) McNulty, Amy (Dave) Kohrman; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ellen Dilling and Madeline McNamera. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Bill Rapp and Pastor Kent Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at the Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke. Memorial donations can be made to Christ’s United Methodist Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
