Walter Hildreth Abbott

Walter Hildreth Abbott, 83, died Sunday July 29, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. He was married to Edna Levasseur Abbott on June 23, 1957. He was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on September 8, 1928. He was the only boy out of four children born to the late Wallace and Olive Abbott. He was a graduate of Brattleboro High School in Vermont, and Norwich University and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, with a degree in Nuclear Energy. He served in the U. S. Army for 28 years and retired in 1973 as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church. He leaves behind two sons: Wray G. Abbott of Fredericksburg, Wayne G. Abbott of Springfield, and two daughters, Wendy Alexander of Lynchburg, and Sonya Ann Abbott of Brookline, MA; he also left behind numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a sister, Mrs. Francis Freeman of Myrtle Beach, S. C. Walter was preceded in death by two of his four sons, Walter W. Abbott of Raleigh, NC and William G. Abbott of Fredericksburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday August 6, 2012 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday August 7, 2012 at St. William of York Catholic Church with interment to follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
