Obituary of Jack Lee Schimmel
Jack Lee Schimmel, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Union Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 21, 1931, in Terre Haute to Theodore Frederick and Hilda Katherine (Shepard) Schimmel. He married June (Price) Schimmel and together they raised four children. He later married Barbara Schimmel. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Quaker Maid, Glidden, and the Vigo County School Corporation. Jack loved cooking, listening to country music, and watching sports. Jack enjoyed playing euchre with his family on Saturday nights and holidays. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family. He will be deeply missed. Jack is survived by his children, Sherrie Snyder and her husband Jim of Harmony, Jackie Ray Schimmel and his wife Teena of Terre Haute, Bob Schimmel of Terre Haute, and Chuck Schimmel and his wife Saundra of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jennifer McClain of Rosedale, Jared Norton of Clinton, Brandon Norton and his wife Jessica of Rosedale, and Matthew David Schimmel and his wife Karia of Peoria, IL; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Brittany McClain, Emma Connor, Christopher Norton, and Connor David Schimmel; a brother, Donald Ray Schimmel and his wife Betty of Flat Rock, MI, sisters, Joann Turner and her husband Larry of Hillsdale, and Barbara Raney of Carleton, MI; sister-in-law, Mary Schimmel of New Boston, MI; a close friend and honorary brother, Bill Arnold and his wife Faye of Terre Haute, and several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Charlotte Cutliff; brothers, Chauncey Schimmel, Frederick Schimmel, Lawrence Schimmel, and Theodore Schimmel, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Mary Schimmel. Visitation will be from 11 until 2 on Tuesday, November 27 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating.
