Colonel Michael J. Gough (retired)

Colonel Michael J. Gough (retired), 59, of Connersville, died late Thursday evening, December 27th 2012, at Indianapolis University Hospital, Indianapolis. Michael was born in Connersville on February, 22, 1953 to Robert L. and Janice Lee Gough and was a 1971 graduate of the Latin School in Indianapolis. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Political Science from Indiana University and a Master’s Degree in Business from Michigan State. On June 23, 1973, he was married at St. Gabriel’s Church to the former Terry Rankin. For 27 years, Michael served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot, including three years stationed in Germany. Michael served his Unit Command with the 4-123 Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska prior to his retirement in 2003. His military decorations included the Legion of Merit (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) and the Senior Army Aviator Badge. Following his military career, Michael was employed as the principal at St. Patrick’s School in Decatur, Illinois. He had also worked as the Veterans Administration representative in Illinois. Michael had a love for antiquing, and collecting Buddy L Toy Trucks. He enjoyed going to auctions and traveling. He was a member of St Gabriel’s Church. Michael is survived by his wife of 39 years: Terry Gough; two sons: Riley Gough and his wife,Tori of Bloomington; Jeromy Gough of Springfield, Illinois; his beloved dog, Hank; seven siblings and their spouses: Robbie Gough and Diane, Candy Owens and Steve, Kim Wilson and Brad, Kevin Gough and Judy, Karen Leach, Todd Gough and Donna, Shane Gough and Lora, all of Connersville; parents- in-law: Bob and Maxine Rankin of Orange Beach, Alabama; brothers-in- law: Bobby and Troy Rankin; sister-in-law: Myra Rankin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family following cremation. There will be no public visitation.
