Obituary of Marion L. Garrett
Marion L. Garrett, 80, of Brownsville, died Friday evening, January 11, 2013, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, Oxford, Ohio. On May 7, 1932, Marion was born in St. Charles, Virginia to Claude and Isabelle Shepard Carter. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Charles High School and was married on June 14, 1952 to Roosevelt Garrett, who died in 1971.They had lived in the local area since 1967 where Marion was busy raising her family, working as a home companion to the elderly and volunteering at area nursing homes. Marion was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting all of her life. She was an avid reader and grew a large garden each year. Marion is survived by her sons: Larry A. Garrett, Sr. and Laila; Gary L. Garrett and Michelle, all of Richmond; Terry M. Garrett and his companion, Carla Weherley of Liberty; Michael D Garrett and his companion, Peggy Riggs of Knightstown; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Larry Garrett, Jr and Leslie of Glenwood; Nathan Garrett and Sarah of Connersville; Kerry Garrett of Las Vegas, Nevada; Hollie Garrett of Dayton, Ohio; Amber Garrett of Liberty; Mandi LoPresti and Michael of Texas; two step-grandsons: Sam and Chris Baker, both of Seattle, Washington; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother: Clarence Carter and his wife, Cora of Pennington Gap, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was preceded in death by her son: Mark D Garrett who died May 30, 2008; two sisters: Frances McDavid and Geneva Rose; and a brother: Kenneth Carter. Visitation will be conducted from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
