G. William "Bill" Dethlefs

G. William "Bill" Dethlefs, 85, of Columbus, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at his home. Mr. Dethlefs was a graduate of University of Illinois. He was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He served in both the United States Navy and Air Force. He was retired from Seasonal Industries. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Anne Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. Private inurnment will be art a later date at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery with military honors by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Hathaway-Myers Chapel was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Born Aug. 28, 1927 in Lake Forest, IL, he was the son of William and Gertrude Mielenz Dethfels. He married Betty Ashworth, Dec. 20, 1951 in Champaign, Il. She preceded him in death April 20, 2009. Survivors include daughters, Ellen (Roger) Miles of San Diego, CA and Catherine (Robert) Bonacorst of Houghton Lake, MI; a brother, Peter Dethlefs of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Darin and Shannon Miles, Robert Bonacorst and Michelle Collier; and four great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sisters, Alida Moore and Gertrude Gordy.
