Obituary of Ethel C. McClurg
Ethel C. McClurg, 94, of Rising Sun and former Connersville resident, died Saturday morning, February 2, 2013, at her residence. Ethel was born in Morehead, Kentucky, May 21, 1918, to Zenas Walton and Bertha Frances Plank Clark and attended Haldeman High School near Morehead. On January 7, 1936, she was married in Morehead to Ernest McClurg and they moved to Connersville where she was employed at Philco-Ford for fourteen years. Ethel’s primary attention was to her family as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting afghans and reading. She grew exceptional flower gardens at her home, often attracting enthusiasts from other communities. Ethel is survived by her children and their spouses: Joyce C. Sweatt and Charles of Buchanan, Tennessee; Peggy S. Tressler and Bruce of Rising Sun; Larry Clark McClurg of Linton; her sister: Kathleen Lykins of Connersville; her grandchildren and their spouses: Clark McClurg and Mary Ann, Lora VanSickle and Mark, Charles Drew and Stacy, Cindy Alcorn and Billy, Joseph Poe and Belinda, Julie Moore, Jon Miller and Shirley, Jayne Jackson, Jay Miller and Maggie, Jeff Miller, Steve Sweatt, Stacy McCluskey and Harold, Dee Sweatt and Mike Doris, Stan Tressler and Becky, Andy Tressler and Patti, Pete Tressler and Lisa, Laine Redding and Aaron, Brad Tressler; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband who died December 7, 1992; her granddaughter: April McClurg; three sisters: Patty Colter; Betty Jones and infant Irene Clark; four brothers: Harry, Eugene, Joseph and infant Keith Clark. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Troy Bishop of the Western Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Western Avenue Baptist Church or Kings Daughters Hospice, Madison.
