Obituary of Earl Gordon Ratliff
RATLIFF, Earl Gordon, 86, of Henrico, passed away February 22, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jewell Diane Ratliff. While on a scholarship at Duke University, he was drafted into the Army during WWII. Earl returned from the war and graduated from the University of Richmond. He was a member of the WORTS Club, Spiders Club, and Rectors Club of the University of Richmond, Portsmouth Naval Lodge No. 100, Charter member of the Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, 50 year member of ACCA Temple Shrine, Past Commander of the ACCA Legion of Honor, Patron 7 times of the Eastern Star, member of the ELKS Lodge, Past President of the Cheswick Walking Club, and was a member of the 70th Army Infantry Division Association. He was owner of Commercial Sound of Virginia. He volunteered at the Food Bank, picking up and delivering food seven days a week for 17 years. Earl and Jewell traveled extensively at home and abroad. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., with Masonic and ELKS services beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1pm, on Wednesday, February 27, at the funeral home. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
