James W. "Jim" Michner

James W. “Jim” Michner, 71, Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born February 28, 1941, in Frankfort, to William James and Bonnie Jean (Roush) Michner. On August 19, 1967, he married Charla (Shanks) Michner, and she survives.
He graduated from Little Jeff High School in Jefferson in 1958 and then attended Purdue University where he graduated from in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He later earned his master’s degree in education from Ball State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966. He was a science teacher at Kokomo Center Schools for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed sports, especially tennis and loved fishing and playing euchre.
In addition to his wife, Charla, he is survived by one son, Jerry W. (April) Michner; one granddaughter, Marissa Michner; one great-grandson, Trent Lee William Michner; one brother, Jerry L. (Pat) Michner; three sisters, Nancy Spindler, Joyce (Dave) Wise, and Teresa (Brian) Cotterman; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Charles Shanks officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
