Obituary of James "Jim" William Bruner
James “Jim” William Bruner, 74, of Buford, GA, formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at VistaCare Hospice in Atlanta, GA. He was born March 26, 1938, in Evansville, to the late James Arthur and June (Cecil) Bruner. He was a track star and captain of his football team at Bosse High School. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a BA in Business and went on to earn his MBA. While at Indiana University he was president of the Delta Chi Fraternity and played running back for the football team. Jim served in the Air Force Reserves. He was an avid reader and loved history; his favorite historical figures were Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln. He especially enjoyed reading about the Civil War and visiting various battlegrounds from the Civil War. Jim may have played football, but as a true Hoosier, his first love was basketball. He loved to watch Indiana University play basketball. Jim had a lifetime career with Chrysler Financial. He worked his entire career in finance and retired from Chrysler Financial as a Vice President in 2001. During his long career his family lived in Idaho Falls, ID, Detroit, MI, Atlanta, GA, Newtown, CT, Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, FL and Indianapolis, IN. For the majority of his career, Jim lived in Newtown, CT. His wife, Jane, was the love of his life. They met in the sandbox at age two and married while still in college. They were married 53 years. He was a loving father of three. One of the hardest moments in his life was the loss of his oldest daughter when she was 19, Becky Bruner. He was also very actively involved with his grandchildren and a big part of their lives. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Becky Bruner. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Day) Bruner; son, Sam Bruner; daughter, Jill (Bruner) Percy, both of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Taylor (Bruner) Donaldson of Decatur, GA, Becky Bruner, Jack Bruner and Sam Percy, All of Alpharetta, GA; and great-grandson, Charles Wesley Donaldson of Decatur, GA. Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Peterson with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park.
