Lewis Earl Campbell

Lewis Earl Campbell, 89, of Amherst, died, Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Medical Care Center. He was the husband of the late Christine Ashley Angus Campbell. Born October 13, 1923, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Delma Lewis Campbell and the late Myrtle Virginia Camden Campbell. Lewis was a retired farmer for Kenmore Farm where he worked for 31 years, and he was a member of Ivy Hill Methodist Church. Lewis also served our country in the US Army during World War II. In addition to his wife and parents, Lewis was preceded in death by two step-daughters, Ethel M. Gowen and Helen E. Cooper; two step-sons, John Sam Angus and David Warren Angus; one sister, Virginia Maxwell; one brother, Lloyd Campbell; and one brother-in-law, Milton Troy Mays. Lewis is survived by three step-children, Hazel Burley of Lynchburg, Cameron Ray Angus and his wife Rene of Amherst and Louise A. Marshall of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Dalvin Campbell and his wife Rebecca Sue of Mechanicsville and Marvin Campbell of Amherst; one sister, Phyllis Mays of Amherst; one step-son-in-law, Garland Gowen of Amherst; two step-sisters-in-law, Pearl Angus and Sandra Angus, both of Nelson County; and numerous loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Rev. Penny Sheppard and Mr. Jeepy Newman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Administration or the American Heart Association.
