Obituary of Henry "Hank" G. Horstmann
Henry “Hank” G. Horstmann, 91, of Evansville, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013. He was born November 23, 1921, to the late William August and Mary Johanna (Moore) Horstmann. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran church in Evansville where he served in many capacities including Treasurer. Hank was a World War II Veteran having served in Germany in the Infantry. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1114. After returning from the Army he went to work for the US Postal Service. He delivered mail to homes on the Eastside. During this time he went to Evansville College (now the University of Evansville) at night. Upon graduation he sought employment with the Internal Revenue Service, retiring from there in 1977. Hank was also a life member of the Order of the Owl’s Nest 30, River Bend Association, Evansville Athletic Club, Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and the order of United Commercial Travelers of America. He enjoyed visiting various clubs to dance and listen to the music of local bands. In his younger years, Hank also enjoyed bowling and playing Clabber. Hank was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Delores (Schnarr) Horstmann; brothers, Herbert, August “Gus,” Bart, Harold and Carl; sisters, Gertrude (infant), Frances, Olga Henry and Mary Hall; and son-in-law, Harvey Head. He is survived by his children, Gary Horstmann, Sharon Head and Brenda (Bryan “Steve”) Bredhold; grandchildren, Eric (Robin) Mayer, Aaron (fiancé, Chrissy Hill) Sutherland, Bonnie (Patrick) Brenner, Becky (Robert) Mangold and Brent (Ashley) Bredhold; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Mae “Maise” Wibbeler of Leesburg, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Illinois Street, officiated by Rev. Sean Esterline, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery. The Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military services at the cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Henry’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Illinois Street, Evansville, IN 47710 or Evansville Lutheran School, 120 East Michigan Street, Evansville, IN 47711.
