Obituary of David L. Winnagle
David Lawrence Winnagle, 73, of Lynchburg, slipped beyond the sunset in to the arms of his Heavenly Father on, Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital. His sunrise was May 5, 1939. He was the son of the late Raymond Jefferson Winnagle and the late Mary McConville Winnagle. David loved fishing and bowling, winning several trophies for his bowling skills. He also loved singing and performed on many stage shows with his wife Golda. Memorabilia from that time is on file in the Country Music Hall of Fame library archives in Nashville, TN. David was a loving husband and father, and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force, earning a Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from Scott Steel and was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church, The American Legion Post 0141, Marine Corps, Detachment 759 and Moose Lodge 715. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy W. Winnagle and Raymond J. Winnagle, Jr. and two sisters, Mary W. Elder and Frances Winnagle. David leaves to treasure his life, his wife Golda N. Winnagle of 50 plus years; their son, Scott D. Winnagle of Lynchburg; his constant companion, the beloved family pet Dachshund, Apollo; eleven siblings, James E. Winnagle (Betty) of Lynchburg, Charles W. Winnagle (Nancy) of Richmond, Allen L. Winnagle (Carolyn), Steven O. Winnagle of Lynchburg, Elizabeth W. Cooke of Richmond, Margaret W. Moore (William) of Lynchburg, Gladys W. Mickey (Don) of Canyon, TX, Norma Winnagle of Norfolk, Catherine W. Ayers (James) of Concord, Patricia W. Coleman (James) of Lynchburg and Betty W. Calvert of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Monty Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park, where military honors will be presented. The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. John Plankeel, Dr. Milam, Dr. Shawn Hayes, Dr. O'Brien and the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their compassionate and loving care towards David during all of his hospital stays. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
