On May 31, 2013, Phillip succumbed to the injuries he received as a firefighter on the third arriving engine company from Arlington County Fire Department, Engine 103, while responding to the terroristic attack on 9-11 at the Pentagon.
Phillip was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on May 12, 1972. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Ruiz; grandfathers, Steve Martinez Sr. and Phillip Curtis McKee Sr.
He is survived by his husband, Nopadon McKee; son, Nathaniel McKee; his service animal “Cloe,” his father, Phillip Curtis McKee Jr (Rebecca); grandmother, Esther O. Martinez, San Antonio, Texas; and grandmother Virginia McKee, Chesapeake, Va. and brother-in-law, Noparat (Sandra) Woods, Dallas, Texas.
Phillip is also survived and very loved by his aunts and uncles, Sandra Martinez, Yvonne Martinez Sotelo (Juan), Robert O. Ruiz, Steve Martinez (Eustolia) and Izaak Martinez from San Antonio Texas.
He is also survived by aunts, Rebecca McKee Wilhite, Patricia McKee Smith, and uncles, Steve McKee and Richard McKee from Virginia. There are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends also grieving his loss.
