IN THE CARE OF
Clore-English Funeral Home
Winfred “Winnie” Eddins, 98, of Culpeper passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. He was born November 16, 1914 in Greene County to Thomas Clingman Eddins and Martha Graves Eddins. Winnie was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Winnie was a well-loved member of the Culpeper community, serving in the Jaycees and Masonic Lodge, and was an active member and Treasurer of the Culpeper United Methodist Church for many years. He co-owned and operated the Nehi Bottling Company of Culpeper with his partner Mac Thomas from 1948-1978. He was a founding member of the Country Club of Culpeper.
Winnie enjoyed golfing, wood working, card games, square dancing, neighborhood town ball games, and was a great fan of practical jokes. Although a virus reduced his voice to a whisper many years ago, his gracious character and acts of kindness spoke volumes. Thousands of Winnie’s small hand-crafted wooden crosses have been handed out all around the world, a fact that gave him much joy during his lifetime.
Winnie was preceded in death by his wife Pamela Hitt Eddins and is survived by his three children, Cheryl Eddins Walker and her husband, Philip of Culpeper; Darlene Schrack Johnson and her husband, Mark of Alexandria; and Winfred “Eddie” Eddins, Jr. and his wife, Julie of Richmond; grandchildren Stephen Walker, Kevin Walker, Jason Walker, Jonathan Walker, Scott Schrack, Emily Schrack, Alison Eddins, and Hannah Eddins and great-grandchildren Tyler Walker, Michelle Walker, Jacob Walker, Bethany Walker, and Judah Walker.
Funeral services will be held at the Culpeper United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 22, at 10:00 a.m. with interment in the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery. Dr. Randy Orndorff and Rev. Robert Donnelly will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at the Clore-English Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Dr., Culpeper, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the World Vision (worldvision.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville, VA. 22901.
